Corduroy Washing Precautions

When washing corduroy, there are several precautions to follow to avoid shrinkage.

1. Follow label instructions. Corduroy suppliers typically provide detailed washing instructions on the garment label, including water temperature, detergent type, and drying and ironing temperatures. Follow these instructions to ensure your garment does not shrink or become damaged.

2. Wash in cold water. Unlike hot water, cold water washing does not shrink corduroy and also reduces color loss. Cold water is the best choice for corduroy.

3. Avoid tumble drying. Using hot air in a dryer may cause corduroy to shrink. Air dry corduroy if possible. Otherwise, line-drying corduroy is best, avoiding direct sunlight.

4. Hand wash first. Hand wash corduroy first. If machine washing, use a mild detergent and a suitable water temperature.
